What did the author use to try to make you sympathize with the character, Paul? Were they effective?

The author made me sympathize , with Paul a canada hockey fan watching Canada vs the silviot union, and not having his dad, who loves hockey with him. Not being able to watch with Paul. I felt sad for Paul because I would like my family with me. And I felt happy at the end when Paul got to watch one of the games with his WHOLE family. That was a touching story that I like!

I feel SO bad for Paul. I understand that his dad is important. I think that when Paul is with his dad it makes a special moment more special!

The story is told from Paul’s point of view. It helps you relate to Paul and what he is feeling. You feel sad for him when his dad has to go away on a work trip and when Canada was losing the tournament. He had felt so confident that Canada would win but it was starting to look like the Soviet Union would win. I felt sorry for him when the coach was telling him to pass the puck and he wanted to talk to his dad but his dad was away working.

This was very heartwarming. Pauls Dad and Paul seemed to have agreat, confident relationship. To be honest, I think his dad shouldn’t have gone away!

we read this book today and i thought it was good and i think that the author’s message is to never give up.I think that because when paul said that there is no use for canada the mom said there is still time paul didn’t belive her and paul gave up on team canada during the sumit series but team canada ended up winning.

when we read the book today i thought the authors mesage was dont judge a team before u play , i think this because the hockey players were being to over confadent and thought they were going to smoke the soviet union but after all they were down 3 games , even though they came back to win it they could of lost because they needed to win 3 games and the soviet union had one

I like how he practices with his grandpa then learns how to be a better goalie. Then he imagined himself as Jacques Plante talking to Toe Blake. Hoping he would be a great goalie ready to learn anything that would help him be a better goalie! 🙂
